COLBERT'S CHILD RESISTANT F=1 PHARMADIAL PACKAGE NOW ACHIEVES 98% SENIOR FRIENDLY EFFECTIVENESS
Senior Friendly PharmaDial also a "Win" for Child Safety
LAKE FOREST, Ill., Feb. 6, 2004 - Colbert Packaging Corporation, a leading manufacturer of folding cartons, rigid paper boxes and paperboard specialty products, today announced that its PharmaDial® packaging product, already tested to F=1 for child resistance, now has been tested to a 98% senior friendly effectiveness. The package was recently subjected to the Consumer Product Safety Commission's CRSF protocol testing and came away with high marks.
First introduced in Sept. 2002, the PharmaDial product, invented by Colbert Packaging and co-marketed by Anderson Packaging, Inc., is a senior friendly, child resistant packaging solution for pharmaceuticals. It provides easy opening for seniors with the added security and safety benefits of child resistant packaging. PharmaDial is a unit dose package designed to ensure ease of use for adults, thereby promoting patient compliance.
"Pharmaceutical companies are in need of a child resistant, senior friendly package that offers marketing people a way to be creative. We've been committed to ensuring child resistance on this product, because it can potentially contain life-threatening medications," said Glenn Grosskopf, vice president of research and development at Colbert Packaging and designer of PharmaDial. "It is the combination of an easy-to-use design for seniors, coupled with a tear resistant blister card, that has enabled us to achieve high safety marks," he added.
The PharmaDial's EZ-3 design calls for the user to perform a simple three-step process to access their medication. The user peels a tab, turns the dial 90 degrees, and then pushes the tablet through the back of the package. PharmaDial features large easy-to-grip functionality and simple, intuitive steps designed to be easily used by adults. To provide additional security for children, it utilizes Colbert Packaging's BlisterGuard® paperboard product. Designed to deter children and pilferers, BlisterGuard is a sealed-end style of folding carton material manufactured using Valéron® Strength Film, a cross-laminated film well-known for its high tear resistance.
"We've been working with pharmaceutical companies for more than four decades. And we are continually developing products that meet the requirements of this ever-growing industry," said Jim Hamilton, executive vice president at Colbert Packaging. "This child resistant senior friendly rating for PharmaDial reinforces our commitment to producing child resistant pharmaceutical packaging solutions without sacrificing ease of use for seniors."
PharmaDial is currently available and can be customized for specific applications. For more information, contact Colbert Packaging at 847.367.5990.
