PAPERBOARD PACKAGING COUNCIL SELECTS BLISTERGUARD SECURITY PACKAGE FOR 2005 INNOVATION AWARD
BlisterGuard® Package from Colbert Packaging Combines Everest® Safe-Pak Bleached Board from International Paper, Valéron High-Strength Film to Maximize High-End Collectible Card Protection
WASHINGTON, D.C., April 12, 2005 - The Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC) has selected the BlisterGuard security package, developed by Colbert Packaging Corporation, for its 2005 Innovation Award. The first application for this unique blister package was for Topps collectible cards, which sell for up to $30 per pack.
The BlisterGuard package combines high visual appeal and state-of-the-art security for tamper and pilfer resistance, and substantially lower cost than the plastic clamshell packaging Topps had been using for its premium baseball, basketball and football collectibles. The package incorporates Everest Safe-Pak fold-over bleached board from International Paper, a unique heat-sealable, tear-resistant paperboard which is laminated with multi-layer, three-mil Valéron High-Strength Film. The blister package has a tear-resistant hanger hole for durability.
The PPC Innovation Award recognizes member companies for research and development efforts in an ever-changing packaging climate.
