Colbert Packaging Unveils New ComplyPak Patient Compliance Package

ComplyPak Offers Blister Compliance with Bottle Convenience

CHICAGO, Nov. 10, 2008 - Colbert Packaging Corp., a leading manufacturer of folding cartons, rigid paper boxes and paperboard specialty products, today introduced at PACK EXPO International (Booth # E-6028) their latest innovation in patient compliance packaging. The paperboard-based ComplyPak™ package combines blister compliance with the convenience and safety of amber medication bottles. Built with the security and sustainability of Colbert's PharmaGuard™ solution, ComplyPak is primarily paper-based, consisting of fully brandable paperboard with a thermal-formed blister tray and child-resistant cap.

"We're seeing pharmaceutical manufacturers moving away from amber bottles, and we are committed to providing a full portfolio of compliance and unit dose packages for our customers. ComplyPak now joins our growing line of pharmaceutical products that includes AlertPak™, PharmaDial® and Zip-Sert®," said Glenn Grosskopf, vice president of product development and licensing for Colbert. "Each of these packages addresses the patient compliance, accountability and environmental sustainability needs of pharmaceutical companies and their retailers."

An alternative to standard amber prescription bottles and nondescript blister packs, ComplyPak delivers a three-step process - push, align and remove - that makes it easy for elderly patients to use. The unique ComplyPak design incorporates a child-resistant cap on the blister card so once tablets are pressed through the foil backing, they are expelled into a cavity which can be accessed only by aligning the arrows of the child-resistant cap for release. ComplyPak's integrated blister card, which is thermal-formed to the branded paperboard, is fully customizable by pharmaceutical companies to accommodate any prescription medication and can house a wide range of blister cavities.

The new paperboard version of ComplyPak - the first of three versions of ComplyPak to enter the market - is designed with Colbert's new PharmaGuard solution. PharmaGuard combines Everest® Safe-Pak® solid bleached sulfate paperboard from International Paper with multilayer Valéron® Strength Film. While providing for optimum brand exposure and recyclability in programs that accept mixed material packaging, PharmaGuard also ensures protection against children attempting to tear or bite into the package, yet remains easy for seniors to open.
