COLBERT PACKAGING RECEIVES ITS FIRST CANADIAN PATENT
New Canadian Patent Joins Two U.S. Patents Previously Awarded for BlisterGuard
CHICAGO, Dec. 7, 2010 – Colbert Packaging Corporation, a leading manufacturer of folding cartons, rigid paper boxes and paperboard specialty products, today announced that it has been granted its first Canadian patent for BlisterGuard®, its secure and sustainable packaging solution for consumer products. The patent (2,497,044) was issued by the Canadian Intellectual Property Office for the unique design of BlisterGuard, one of approximately a dozen paperboard specialty products developed by Colbert Packaging in recent years. It is the company’s eighth patent and the third awarded for BlisterGuard. Several other Colbert products are patent-pending.

The paperboard-based BlisterGuard package was first introduced by Colbert Packaging in 2002 as an alternative to plastic clamshells, and since then, more than 160 million units have been sold. The award-winning BlisterGuard design, which has been recognized for its innovation and sustainability, is tear-resistant in retail environments yet easy and safe for consumers to open at home with a pair of scissors. It is also recyclable* and complies with retailers’ sustainability requirements by reducing the use of petroleum-based plastics by up to 70 percent. The fully customizable BlisterGuard package offers a large printable area that helps manufacturers achieve better shelf presentation and brand awareness for their products in the retail aisle.
Several paperboard specialty products designed and offered by Colbert Packaging, including EnviroGuard™ and the company’s new MedLock™ pharmaceutical compliance package, are based on the successful BlisterGuard platform.
