For Air Gun Pellets: Crosman Switches to BlisterGuard
East Bloomfield, New York based Crosman Corporation has switched its retail packaging for two of its air gun pellets to the BlisterGuard package from Colbert Packaging. The tamper-inhibiting blister package increases security within retail stores by thwarting the ability of someone to open the pellets, load them into an air gun and start firing.
The use of the BlisterGuard package by Crosman marks the first application in which the BlisterGuard components are automatically picked from a magazine, placed onto Crosman's packaging equipment and sealed at high speed, said the packaging supplier. The switch to BlisterGuard required only minor changes to Crosman's equipment, Colbert added.
Privately held Crosman had been asked by retailers for more secure pellet packages. The former package had a plastic blister holding the tin of pellets secured to a single piece of non-tamper resistant board.
"After weighing several options, including a plastic clamshell and other trap blister options, we chose the BlisterGuard security package," said Bob Hampton, vice president of marketing for Crosman. "It provides far greater security than the previous package because it has two layers of tamper-resistant paperboard which sandwich the plastic blister. It is less costly than the plastic clamshell alternative. And, because it is made primarily from recyclable paperboard, it is a preferred package by retailers seeking environmental sustainability and waste reduction."
IP's Everest Board
The paper-based BlisterGuard from Colbert is also highly printable, enabling a manufacturer better shelf presentation, International Paper reported. It is made of Everest Safe-Pak fold-over blister board from IP, a heat-sealable, tear-resistant bleached paperboard laminated with a multi-layer high-strength film said to make it virtually tear-proof. Ideal for a wide range of products, it has a tear-resistant hanger hole for added durability, International Paper said.
